The Chinese Consul-General in New Zealand (Mr Tien Fang Cheng) will leave Wellington on April 14 to visit the Chinese communities in the South Island. Mr Tien, who will be accompanied by the Vice-Consul (Mr Wu Wen Hui) will return to Wellington on April 22.—(.PA.)
Tributes to the splendid work done by Sir Arthur Donnelly and Dr. W. S. Seed in the interests of Rugby football, cricket and amateur athletics were paid by the Victory Park Board at the monthly meeting held last evening. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of two fine sportsmen. Miss Nancy Northcroft, town planning officer of the Christchurch City Council, is a patient in an Auckland hospital. She recently underwent an operation. Mr G. D. L. White, of the Department. of External Affairs, left Wellington yesterday to take up the appointment of counsellor (edonomic) in the office of the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, in succession to Mr N. S. Mclvor, who has accepted a position with ’the World Bank for Reconstruction and Development.—(P. A.)
Mr G. O. Greenwood was welcomed to the Canterbury Museum Trust Board yesterday representing the Canterbury Pilgrims’ and Early Settlers’ Association.
