WAGE RISE OFFER REJECTED

LONDON, March 17. Leaders representing more than 3,000,000 engineering workers in Britain today rejected an offer of a 5 per cent wage increase -and called an emergency meeting of the 39 unions involved.

Mr Gavin Martin, general secretary of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions, said: “The employers would not give anything over 5 per cent., but we are thinking in terms of 15 per cent.”
