SEARCH RADAR FOR COMETS

LONDON, March 17. The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (Mr J. D. Profumo) told the House of: Commons today that the British Overseas Airways Corporation, within six months, would experiment with airborne search radar sets in Comets to detect dangerous high ground. He added that trials with these sets did not yet justify making it compulsory for them to be carried by British passenger aircraft. The first British Comet jetliner to fly overseas since the crash in the Mediterranean on January 10 left London tonight for Johannesburg. She carried no fare-paying passengers, but two complete crews to resume the normal service on March 23. A Comet operated by Air France resumed earlier this week. .
