BUTTER IMPORTS BY SOVIET

50,000 Tons Believed Bought (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 12. Russia is reported to have bought some 50,000 tons of butter within the last six months, and also “small quantities” of meat, mostly ewe mutton. The butter was bought not only from New Zealand and Australia, but also from Denmark, Holland, and Argentina.

It is understood that the latest Russiart orders were placed last week with Denmark for some 5000 tons, and also with Argentina. Estimates of the amount of meat bought seem to vary from a few hundred tons to a few thousand. It is believed possible that this meat may be for East Germany.
