OFFICIAL FORECASTS “The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON. December 17. The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, and dealing with the 21 hours following the time of issue. Situation: a cold front is moving eastward* across the North Island, and a south-westerly current is spreading over the country. Forecast: fresh south-west winds; weather cloudy, with showers, especially in the coastal areas; cool temperatures. Outlook: fair. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Fresh south-westerly winds; weather cloudy, with some passing showers; moderate day temperatures. Outlook: fair to cloudy. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch yesterday was fine, with a moderate north-west wind •nd a maximum temperature of 73.5 degrees. At midnight the sky was almost overcast and a strong south-west wind was blowing. The temperature was 55.4 degrees. The barometer, at 29.2 S inches (991.6 millibars), was rising unsteadily.
