RANGIORA’S MILK SUPPLY
REPLY TO COMPLAINTS ABOUT SEDIMENT
The possibility of a bottled milk supply for Rangiora next year was referred to in a lettei* from the Medical Officer of Health (Dr. D. P. Kennedy) which came before the Rangiora Borough Council at its monthly meeting on Wednesday evening. Replying to complaints from the council about sediment in some of the milk supplied in the borough, the letter said that this particular fault was always liable to be found in a supply where the service was one of loose milk. Sources of sediment might originate at any point from farm to consumer. The only way to ensure freedom from sediment was to provide a bottled supply. This would eliminate contamination during delivery and processing at bottled plants. He had inquired as to the availability of such a supply for the borough and understood it could be established some time next year, said Dr. Kennedy. It was decided to ask Dr. Kennedy for further information, particularly as tc whether bottled milk would be available in raw and pasteurised forms and as to who would control the supply.
