STOCK EXCHANGES MARKETS REMAIN STEADY A comparatively small but diversified list of business was transacted on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday. Markets generally remained very steady and no appreciable changes were recorded. Government secuirties had greater buying power, although prices showed no material alteration. Bank of New South Wales shares continued to gather strength, buyers raising their bids to £3l 12s 6d, with sellers holding for £32. Buyers appeared for Australia and New Zealand Bank at 35s 3d, with sellers 5d away. The yield to buyers at 35s 3d would be £2 19s. Other banking issues were neglected. New Zealand Insurance had sales and sellers at £6 Is, at which price this popular stock shows a yield of only £2 17s lOd. Woollens were the most buoyant section of the market, and quotations for several stocks moved in sellers’ favour. Korma preferences, the only woollens stock traded, showed no change at 18s 4d, and more were wanted at the same price, sellers holding for 18s 9d. Woolworths, Ltd., were traded at 15s lOd and Id up at 15s lid, the market closing at 15s 9d and 15s lid respectively. These sale prices show investors a yield of about £3 Is.

Four parcels of Ampol Petroleum sold at the further improved price of 30s, and at the close there were further buyers at this figure—no sellers.
