LECTURERS ANNOUNCED “The Pacific area in world affairs” has been chosen as the theme for this year’s summer school of the Workers’ Educational Association in the Canterbury and Otago university districts, which will open on Boxing Day in the special school at Otekaike, North Otago. Members will live in and remain at the school until January 4, and besides their studies will have opportunity for a variety of recreations and entertainments. The Pacific studies will be led by different lecturers for specialised theatres. The introduction on the Pacific area in world affairs will be given by Mr George Manning, metropolitan tutor-organiser of adult education in Christchurch. Mr P. Mr Manning will speak late in the course on the Anzus pact and Mr Martin Smith on Indonesia. Mrs Mildred Scott, a former teacher at the Hutt Valley School, will lead a study on the history of English literary development, then on the literature of Australia and New Zealand, and later she will lead discussions on the thesis that “this is not the age of great novels.” Some of the students in this course will give book reviews.
