U.N. SECURITY COUNCIL
N.Z. REPRESENTATIVE CHOSEN POST FOR MR L. K. MUNRO (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 16. The Cabinet today confirmed the nomination of Mr L. K. Munro, New Zealand’s Ambassador to the United States, as New Zealand’s representative on the Security Council. New Zealand will become a member of the council on January 1, and will continue for two years. The Prime Minister (Mr Holland) said this afternoon that Mr Munro would continue his existing duties as Ambassador and as permanent representative to the United Nations. As his duties in New York with the Security Council would involve him in long absences from Washington, Mr G. R. Laking, at present Counsellor in the Embassy, would hold the temporary status of Minister. “This rank for Mr Laking will assist him in the discharge of the additional duties that will inevitably devolve on him at the Embassy because of Mr Munro’s special concern with the Security Council and other United Nations work in New York,” said Mr Holland. _ _ _
