CARTAGE RATES INCREASED
RISE OF 6 PER CENT. AUTHORISED (Neto Zealand. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, December 15. An increase in cartage rates by the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance has been granted by the Commissioner of Transport, according to advice received in New Plymouth. The increase is a result of an agreement reached with three user organisations, and will apply to cartage connected with these organisations. They are Federated Farmers of New Zealand, the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation, and the Dominion Council of Commercial Gardeners. In Taranaki farm cartage will be the type of work most affected by the increase.
The order is for a 6 per cent general increase in all area rates schedules, with the exception of Southern Hawke’s Bay, Central Otago, and Banks Peninsula. The new rates became effective yesterdayIn negotiations between the executive and rates committees of the Transport Alliance and representatives of the three organisations it was agreed that the increase would cover the wage increase recently ordered by the Arbitration Court. It would also cover other variations in costs since the last general increase, and also offset to some extent the retrospective effect of the Court order.
