A CINDERELLA STORY, with a dress designer as the fairy godmother, is attached to the rise to fame of London’s most recent model. Eileen Cavalia, a 24-year-old former barrow girl and bus conductor of Pimlico, London, was chosen by Mattli, one of the world’s 10 leading designers, from dozens of girls who answered an advertisement. Now known as Valentine—she was born on St. Valentine’s day—she appeared before the Queen Mother at a special dress show. The photograph shows her as she arrived for a rehearsal of the show.
