CHRISTMAS PARTY

CENTRAL TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD The Christchuicn central Townswomen’s Guild held an enjoyable and imormal Christmas party in the Latimer Hall last evening. The guests, numbering about 350, included representatives from other organisations and sister guilds. They were welcomed by the president (Mrs C. E. Anderson), assisted by Mesdames E. Hodge, R. Smith, and J. Tate. On the stage among bowls of brightly coloured flowers, ferns and gay Christmas decorations was a large illuminated Christmas tree. The programme. . which included dancing, competitions and games, opened with Christmas carols sung by the choir under the leadership of Mrs Cairns Bell. Other items were a sketch by the drama circle and a song in character by members of the evenin' arts and crafts class. After simper a beauti'ully iced Chrismas cake, made by Mrs t nderson. was distributed among the guests Tt was announced that the sum o' £Bl 16s 9d was raised at the guild’s annual flower show and display of work. Prices won at that gathering were awarded to the following:—Mrs L R Sloane icooHn"). Mrs E. Morse /sweet' and arts and craf*s). Mrs G Srott (flnral art). Th** challenge curtor most noinfs in all sections was awarded to Mrs Morse.
