FOUND SMOKING OPIUM
EUROPEAN FINED £75 (New Zealand Press HASTINGS, December 1. When a party of Hastings police, executing a search warrant, climbed in the window of a Hastings house they found Douglas William Robertson . lying on the floor in his pyjamas smoking omum. As a result. Robert- ’ son, aged 35, a b'lliards room propriei tor. pleaded guilty before Mr W. A. I Harlow. S.M., today to being found ’in.possession of opium, being found in of a pipe and utensils for ‘•opium smoking, and of being illegally ’ in-possession of raw onium. The latter charge was laid by the Collector of Customs. Robertson was fined £25 on each Charge. Detective-Sergeant A. P. Jesson, -who prpsecuted, said that the offence was s serious one. especially as the accused was a European and there was a
large quantity of opium in his possession. The accused was a married man and had previously been convicted of bookmaking. Robertson said there was no use making excuses. He had smoked opium and that was all there was to it.
