CYCLING
MEETING AT ENGLISH PARK
GOOD FINISHES SEEN
A large crowd showed its appreciation of the excellent riding at English Park last night. Both amateur and cash events were of a very high standard, and there were some thrilling finishes in heats and finals. In the amateur secret distance, a very fast pace was maintained throughout, the riders keeping closely bunched and at no time did any rider make a break in anticipation of the gun lor the last 200 yards. This resulted in a large number of riders fighting out a close finish. Many novices are showing greatly improved form, particularly B. Haze line, who rode very well from the back mark. The handicapping has been tightened. Results:— Amateur Quarter Mile A Grade.—First heat: L. Lock (scr) 1, R. Fowler (scr) 2. Time. 30 l-ssec. Second heat: G. Painter (20yds) 1, Taylor (20yds) 2.
