ROYAL OPENING OF PARLIAMENT

6000 APPLICATIONS FOR 100 SEATS

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 2. At least 6000 names will go into a ballot shortly to decide the 100 or so members of the general public to be allocated seats at the Royal opening of Parliament next month. Since applications were called for a “limited number of seats” by the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) last Friday, thousands of applications have poured in to the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and many of these letters carry applications for several persons. Applications will close tomorrow. The seats will not be in the Council Chamber where the ceremony will take place, but on the steps of Parliament Buildings, which will give a good view of the Royal party as it enters and leaves the building and a good view of the outside ceremonial.
