Maori Tribute to Pakeha

A tribute to Mr John Stewart, who has retired after 16 years’ service as chairman of the board of governors of Te Wai Pounamu College, was composed by pupils of the school and sung in Maori at a break-up function held last evening. Beginning, “The time has come for you to leave us; your work as chairman has come to an end,” the tribute was in the form of a Maori action song. The tune sounded familiar to a reporter, who, thinking it was probably borrowed from a Maori song, asked one of the pupils to tell him its name. “Among my Souvenirs,” was the smiling answer.
