WOMAN VICARS ASSISTANT
MISS P. M. LAKE COMMISSIONED Miss P. M. Lake, the first trained woman parish worker to graduate under the Board of Women's Church Work in the Christchurch Diocese, was commissioned in the Cathedral yesterday, by the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren). Miss Lake has completed two years' training at Bishop Julius Hostel, and has attended lectures in theology at College House. At the end of her training she passed an examination set by the Board of Theological Studies. Presenting Miss Lake with her licence, the Bishop referred to the prominent part that women were playing in the affairs of the world and in the work of the church. Miss Lake is leaving shortly to serve as assistant to the Rev. A. H. Teulon, Vicar of Hokitika. Her licence authorises her to take services and to give addresses if the vicar wishes. She will also be engaged in youth work in Hokitika.
