SNUFFBOX READY FOR BEAUMONT MEETING “The Press’’ Special Service DUNEDIN, December 1. Snuffbox, a light-weight candidate for the Wetherstones Handicap, the main racd at the BeaumoAt meeting on Saturday, impressed in his gallop at Wingatui this morning. He recorded a sound trial over half a mile in 49sec, alter covering the opening furlong in 12sec. The trials were neld on the inside grass, which, if anything, may be a shade short. The track was particularly fast. Snuffbox, which was at a disadvantage in the weights, was more than a length behind Irish Wings and Paper Royal when they broke away, but he finished strongly to be in line with his companions at the end of the trial. Irish Wings was not suited by the hard track and was inclined to hang. Someone and Blue Robe went over the same ground and finished on terms in 51 3-ssec, the last three furlongs in 39 l-ssec. Gay Gitana was given an easy half-mile in 53sec, the opening furlong in 13 l-ssec. Night Signal took 53 2-ssec, the last furlongs in 41sec. Ma Heine and Mighty Dollar dashed over three furlongs in 35 l-ssec. Stakes Candidate Lightning Lady, which is due to have her first race in the Coronation Trial Stakes, hung on to shade Worthy Song in 39sec. Master Bobs and Nuclear were a length clear of Current in 39 3-ssec. Lord Chat galloped on the extreme outside to record 41 3-ssec. A five-year-old Chatsworth gelding from the Valkyrian mare, Lispian, Lord Chat is due to make his first start in the Beaumont Novice Miss Neptune and High Tide recorded the best gallop over five furlongs when they finished together, well clear of Royal Rose, in Imin 3 2-ssec. They galloped the last three furlongs in 38 4-ssec. Fair Night, which has drawn a wide barrier position in the Novice Stakes, worked impressively over five furlongs on his own in Imin 4 2-ssec, the last three in 39 4-ssec. Corona Fox, which is well forward in her preparation to resume racing at the Christmas meetings, dashed over six furlongs in Imin 17 3-ssec, the last three in 41sec. St. Columba and Sivite broke away <"t the seven furlongs and ran the last six in Imin 20 l-ssec, the concluding three in 40 4-ssec. Absence gave a glimpse of her best form when she finished a length clear of Felicitous at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 29 4-ssec, the onening half-mile in the smart time of 48 2-ssec. Autumn Queen has been scratched from the Coronation Trial Stakes, and this allows Shaiba to re-enter the field, Hororata Racing Club Acceptances-(racing), withdrawals (trotting) for the Hororata Racing Club’* meeting to be held at Hororata on Saturday.
