YOUNG MAN KILLED

CAR STRIKES POST ACCIDENT NEAR LINCOLN A young man was killed and another injured when a motor-car ran off'the road about two miles west of Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, on Saturday evening, and struck a concrete power pole. The man killed was: Bodger Francis Carter, aged 20, single, an agricultural contractor. His father is Mr T. F. Carter, of Greenpark. The only passenger in the car was Colin Wright, aged 19* years, son of Mr G. A. Wright, of Sprmgston, who'was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital. It was reported last evening that his condition was satisfactory. The accident occurred about 9.25 p.m. Mr Carter was driving a late model American car in an easterly direction toward Lincoln on the South-bridge-Sockburn main highway. On a bend the can ran off the road and struck a concrete power pole. The pole was snapped and fell on top of the car, which was heavily damaged about the engine and the driver’s seat. Mr Carter was dead by the time he was extricated from the wreckage. A passing taxi driver picked up Mr Wright and took him to Lincoln, where he received medical treatment, and then brought him on to the Christchurch Public Hospital,

MOTORCYCLIST KILLED

TWO OTHER MEN INJURED IN COLLISION (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, November 29. A motor-cyclist was killed and two other men were admitted to the Dunedin Public Hospital after a motor-cycle collided with a motor-car about 6.48 p.m. on Saturday. The man killed was:— Leonard Sharpie, aged 30, married, an attendant at the Seacliff Hospital. The injured were: Richard Felin, aged 28, of Alexandra street, Abbotsford, the pillion rider; and Arthur Downie, of Calder street, driver of the car. ANGLER DROWNED IN STREAM

TAURANGA BARRISTER (New Zealand Press Association; AUCKLAND, November 29. A well-known Tauranga barrister, Mr John Keith Butler Lusk, was drowned yesterday at 4 p.m. in a stream below the power house at McLaren’s falls, Tauranga County. Mr Lusk, accompanied by Mr B. Hartman, had been fishing for trout from the bank of a deep pool 300 yards below the falls. After fishing for two hours they decided to make a final cast before returning home. Mr Hartman slipped on some rocks and fell into the pool. He was swimming back when Mr Lusk, who had been endeavouring to help him, also fell in. Mr Hartman managed to hold Mr Lusk up but .finally lost his grip and his friend disappeared. The Tauranga police recovered the body tiiis morning after the power house dam had been closed to lower the level of the stream. Mr Lusk, who was 45 years of age, was a member of a well-known Auckland family. His father is Mr J. B. Lusk, of Epsom. He was married and had three children. His wife, formerly Miss Elaine Hopkins, of Hamilton, is also a qualified solicitor.
