ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE
ACCUSED REMANDED IN CUSTODY On a charge of attempting to murder Peter Barry Gilligan at Christchurch on November 27, Edward Russell Stephen Ross, aged 23, a labourer, was remanded to December 4 when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday. Ross’s application for release on bail was. strongly opposed by DetectiveSergeant A. B. Tate, who said that accused had been arrested the previous evening in circumstances in which he might have been a great danger to the public. Ross told the Bench that it was imperative that he should have bait It was of great importance. Bail was refused. Mr D. G. Smith, J.P., and Mr E. J. Woolf, J.P., were on the Bench.
