WAR AMPUTEES
Sir.—On being elected the first thing the members of Parliament did was to increase their own salaries and arrange their own salaries.. Later, they gave away to foreign countries millions of pounds, paid £l3 000 compensation to an official who had been drawing £1750 a year, spent thousands in tours of Ministers and their wives. They also admit having a surplus of £26,000,000, and now they will not give disabled soldiers, war veterans, pensioners or retired civil servants any help or relief. It is true that before the election we were told that “the pound would go further.” It has—away. This is the idea of justice of members of Perliament. It is obvious that they have no interest iin our welfare; but it is gratifying to
know that you and the general public in all walks of life, show that the? are sympathetic to us.—Yours, etc., ONE OF THEM. November 27, 1953. MELTING BITUMEN Sir, —“Fed Up With Tar” shoulc try eucalyptus for removing the spot of tar from her clothing.—Yours, etc C.M November 27, 1953.
