INCREASE IN PIG KILLINGS

Nearly 56,000 more pigs were slaughtered in the 12 months up to September than in the previous yearly period. This was reported to the Canterbury District Pig Council lest evening. Killings of porkers were mainly responsible for the increase. There were 55,024 more of this type oi pig killed in. the last year. Details of the killings in the 12 months up to September, with those for the previous year in parenthesis, are: porkers, 336,777 (281,753); baconers, 381,555 (379,713); choppers, 24,853 (25,721); totals, 743,185 (687.187).
