FREEHOLDERS’ RIGHTS
Sir, —Recently legislation was passed to consolidate the Crown’s position about taking land compulsorily. ' This is the handiwork of the shrewd Ministry of Works bureaucrats. The notice of intention to take land in the Wainoni area expires in a few days. It has been renewed for a further term to enable the Ministry of Works officials to continue their muddling delay tactics. Why should the business of landowners, particularly farmers and those engaged in business of some kind, be interfered with and held up indefinitely at the pleasure of the Works Department’s go-slow policy? Surely these departmental officials should be compelled to transact business in the ordinary way without unnecessary delay and humbug with 'settlements.— ours, etc., ’ BRITISH JUSTICE.
