ROWING
KERRS REACH PENNANT COMPETITION
Entries for the first series of the Canterbury Rowing Association’s Kerr’s Reach pennant competition are too large to allow races to be held over the new course in the time available each side of high tide. It has been found necessary to transfer the races to the course over which the head of river races are held, which extends from Woodham road to a finishing line near the bridge at the top of Fitzgerald avenue. A vice-president of the association (Mr W. H. Candy) said that until more water was available at all states of the tide at Kerr’s Reach, it would not be possible to run anything approaching a full-scale regatta. It was hoped that some improvement would be made shortly to enable oarsmen to train there for the coming fixtures.
“The bridges now being erected interfere seriously with training, and it is only possible to use Kerr’s Reach at suitable tides,’’ Mr Candy said. Events in the first series will be for all classes of fours and youths, maidens, and junior pairs. The next series for single and double scullers will take place early next year. Entries for the first series are particularly strong from Timaru. Draw for Saturday The draw for Saturday, November 28, is as follows:

First-mentioned crews start from the north bank, and due to number of entries making. it impossible to hold events on the Kerr’s Reach course in the time available, it. has been decided to hold the competition on the course usually rowed over in the head-of-river series. It is suggested that on the completion of each heat boats be landed at the Avon sheds instead of returning to individual sheds. This will assist in getting the programme off to time. ' Advt.
