CONSTITUTION OF PAKISTAN
ADVICE FROM CANADA AND BRITAIN
LONDON, November 23. The Karachi correspondent of “The Times” says the Pakistan Government has asked Britain and Canada for expert advice in the final drafting of her Constitution.
When the advice is received, work will begin on the part of the report of the Basic Principles Committee already adopted by the Constituent Assembly. United States advice is considered unsuitable because of the powers delegated to the President. The Canadian Constitution, with its emphasis on Parliamentary authority, is considered a better model for Pakistan.
Pakistani law officers are anxious to avoid what they consider the “potentially embarrassing completeness” of the Indian Constitution. One of the officers said fhe compromise they are looking for is something between the written and unwritten constitution. The British North American Act is regarded as a good start.
