NEW YEAR’S EVE SHOPPING

WELLINGTON FIRMS TO OBSERVE LATE NIGHT (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 25. On New Year’s Eve, Wellington shops will stay open until 9 o’clock, instead of closing at 5.30 as in other years. On Christmas Eve the shops will be open until 10 p.m. This was decided at last night’s meeting of the Wellington Retailers’ Association. It applies to drapery, footwear, furniture, department and chain stores.

For the Royal visit to Wellington, shops will close all day on Monday, January 11, but will remain open as usual for the rest of the week. Shops on the route of the Royal tour will close a quarter of an hour before the entourage passes and will reopen immediately afterwards.
