TANNER CUP CONTEST M. SELWOOD TO SAIL FOR CANTERBURY The final races in the trials for a P class representative for Canterbury in the Tanner Cup national contest were held at Stewart’s Gully over the week-end. After two races the week before. M. Sei wood (Jenny) was leading from B. Treleaven (Hi Ho) on points. Treleaven won the next two races and finished first in the fifth. However, he was disqualified, and Seiwood, who had- been second in the third and fourth races, advanced to first position. Seiwood (400) then led on points from Treleaven (300) and G. Rothwell (Scamp, 169.48). As Treleaven had beaten Seiwood three times in the five races, he was entitled i to challenge for a match race to decide the winner. After a very exciting and close race, in which good sailing was seen. Seiwood came in first and was declared winner of the trials.
Subject to the confirmation of the Canterbury Sailing and Power-Boat Association. Seiwood will represent Canterbury at the contest at Tauranga next January. Results were:— Third Race (12 starters) .—Hi Ho (B. Treleaven) 1, Jenny (M. Seiwood) 2. Scamp (G. Rothwell) 3. Panic (R. Andreassend) 4, Gremlin (B. Loader) 5. Fourth Race (10 starters).—Hi Ho 1, Jenny 2, Panic 3, Scamp 4. Imp (S. Loader) 5. Fifth Race (eight starters).—Jenny 1. Imp 2, Scamp -3, Pip (O. Brown) 4. Gremlin 5. Challenge Race.—Jenny 1, Hi Ho 2.
