DISPUTE OVER TRIESTE
Italy Agrees To
Conference (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) ROME, November 23. Italy has unconditionally accepted the British, United States and French proposals for a five-Power conference to settle the dispute with Jugoslavia on Trieste, a Foreign Office spokesman said tonight. The spokesman said the proposals gave due consideration to the Italian position. The proposals are still secret, but Italian newspapers reported today that the Allies had temporarily bypassed the British-American declaration of October 8 to hand Zone A of Trieste to Italy, and had suggested that the whole job of the conference would be to discuss the future of the whole territory, including Zone B. Italy maintains that the British-American decision of October 8 should be irrevocable.
