BOMBS AND MAU MAU
Sir,—“P.J.A.” asks: is no-one to protest against the use of bombers on the people of Africa? There is a magnificent width in his description of Mau Mau savages as “the people of Africa.” Apparently, decent Kikuyu tribesmen themselves are far from protesting; indeed, they have approved the bombing of terrorists. But the "P.J.A.’s” in our midst are always protesting, with ejnphasis on their theories that anyone, black or yellow, or Com-* munist, is always right and the lawabiding citizens of the British Empire always wrong. In ‘‘The Meaning of ■Treason,” Rebecca West aptly sums up such persons: *‘. . . Such people feel that they habitually show courage in reading a left-wing weekly.” “Infantilists, she dubs them. Some day “P.J.A.” may awaken from fatuous drearrfs, to realise that for every protest he makes, two opponents arise, who go quietly to work on the side of sanity.—Yours, etc., . M.A.B.
