TRAFFIC CONTROL IN AKAROA
Sir, —Although some years have I passed since the Transport Department took over the traffic control in [Akaroa, no appreciable improvements I have resulted. During the Labour Day week-end many narrow escapes from accidents were noticed in the borough, i With so many narrow streets, it is time that such streets as PBenoit and Smith street and Percy and William streets should be made “oneway only” traffic roads, as this would ! mean very little inconvenience, if [any, to residents, yet it would prove a great safety to motorists', pedestrians, and children. Let us take action before a serious occurs.—Yours, etc., SAFETY FIRST.
November 5, 1953. [When this letter was referred to the District Officer of the Transport Department (Mr T. D. Clifford) he had no comment to make.]
