NEW SURF CLUB PAVILION
OFFICIAL OPENING AT NORTH BEACH A new pavilion, built at an estimated cost of £ 1500, was officially opened yesterday for use by the North Beach Surf Life-Saving Club. The building, which was declared open by the patron of the club (Mr W. L. Gill) has been constructed in concrete blocks and finished in a roughcast grey. The pavilion has been built as an extension of the old pavilion, which was completely renovated. A new dressing shed faces along the east wall, and the old dressing shed is now a social hall. Additional dressing rooms have been provided by the space beneath the high foundations. An official of the club estimated that the new pavilion contained dressing-room space of about 700 square feet. Results of races held yesterday, the opening day of the season, were:— Surf race.—Senior: E. A. Bodger and S. Nichols equal 1, I. Dobson 3. Junior: R. Dalton 1, I MacDonald 2, M. O’Neill 3. Junior four-man rescue (D. V. Wilson Cup).—J. Bertenshaw, M. O’Neill, R. Goodman and M. Johnson. Senior inter-club ski relay.—North Beath A (R. Connelly, D. Wilde and B. Bull) 1, New Brighton 2, North Beach B 3.
Junior ski relay.—R. Dalton, H. Wilde, G. Duder and I. MacDonald. .The first race in the junior championship for the Shaw Cup was won by I. MacDonald for the second year running.
