THIRD ROUND ENDED The closing day of the third round of the Suburban Cricket Association competitions was favoured with ideal conditions, and play was interesting throughout. A sterling innings by R. Wilson improved Waltham’s position against Beckenham, but the remaining batsmen batted pOorly and the side was 38 runs behind on the first innings. W.M.C. beat Hillsborough by 42 runs on the first innings, and Matchless beat Papanui by 89 runs on the first innings. The following are match points:—Beckenham 18, Waltham 11. Papanui 7, W.M.C. 6, Matchless 6, Hillsborough 2. Results:— SENIOR A GRADE Matchless 234 (Churton 56, Smythe 36, H. Wason 32) beat Papanui 145 and 33 for three wickets (Barnes 25), by 89 runs. For Papanui, Sherwood took four for 66, and Southern three for 24. Beckenham 130 and 196 for three wickets (Davidson 61, Leigh 33 not out, Heath 28) beat Waltham 92 (Wilson 32 not out) by 38 runs on the first innings. For Beckenham, Mitchell took five for 13, and Butler three for 26. W.M.C. 210 and 40 for four wickets beat Hillsborough 168 (Nuttridge 56, Anderson 30) by 42 runs. For W.M.C., Dunlop took three for 18, and Warr three for 54. SENIOR B GRADE Sumner 239 (Clements 81, Smith 43, Edginton 39) beat Spreydon 113 and 106 (Higgins 22) by an innings and 20 runs. For Sumner, Chitty took four for 29. Waltham 238 for eight wickets declared and 51 beat New Brighton 163 (Hay 61, Jackson 33) by 75 runs on the first innings. For New Brighton, Cockle took five for 11 and Walton three for 7; and for Waltham, Rayner took three for 20, and Hamilton three for 32. Wigram 176 and 73 for three wickets declared (Roberts 20 not out) beat Shipping 85 and 105 for nine wickets (Porteous 32) by 91 runs on the first innings. JUNIOR A GRADE Opawa 204 and 126 for one wicket (Mitchell 55, Brough 43, Blee 40) beat Southern. 173 and 155 for five wickets by nine wickets. Tramways 217 and 96 for nine wickets declared (Parkes 29) beat Papanui 159 and 59 for four wickets, by 58 runs on the first innings. For Tramways, Sewell took three for 23. Shirley 228 (Goodwin 69, Morris 40 not out) and 71 for five wickets beat Mairehau 141 (Horn 55) and 177 (Millar 41, Pouiter 43 not out), by 87 runs on the first innings For Shirley, Morris took five for 42; and for Mairehau, Saunders took five for 58.

JUNIOR B GRADE St. Albans 120 and 98 for eight wickets beat W.M.C. 62 and 129, by two wickets. Army 170 and 131 (Geddes 66 not out) beat Matchless 135 and 118 for five wickets (Mallard 70 not out), by 35 rims on the first innings. For Army, Geddes took six for 68 and three for 55; and for Matchless, Sparks took four for 24, and Good three for 35. Riccarton 89 and 83 for seven wickets beat Heathcote 56 and 78, by three wickets. , JUNIOR C GRADE Waltham 150 and 81 beat Hay’s 140 (Gordon 84) and 66 for six wickets, by 10 runs on the first innings. For Waltham, Cole took three for 19; and for Hay’s Mannix took four for 21, and* James three for 20. THIRD B GRADE Spreydon 167 (Cowles 87, Wadley 32) beat Beckenham 160 (Smith 47, Davison 30) by seven runs. For Spreydon Johannsen took three for 47; and for Beckenham Weir took six for 57. Heathcote 145 (Adams 48, Donald 25) and 19 for sone wicket beat Waltham 52 and 107 by nine wickets. For Heathcote Adams took seven for 24 and Bate six for 33; and for Waltham Maclure took four for 37. Templeton Farm 160 (Tansley 31, Feck 30, Mann 27) beat Hillsborough 78 (Croft 21) by 82 runs. For Templeton Farm Overend took four for 19. Shirley 142 (Nunnerley 54. Steel 34) beat Sydenham League 141 (Gardiner 59, Williams 25) by one run. For Shirley, Saundercock took seven for 47; and for Sydenham League Williams took five for 52 and Robinson five for 80. THIRD C GRADE Riccarton 104 (Hannah 28 not out) beat Southern 78 by 26 runs. For Riccarton Shearer took five for 24, and for Southern Bain took four for 23 and H. Taylor four tor 51. United 118 (Taylor 36, Scott 28) beat Sumner 48 by 70 runs. For United Peebles took five for 15 and Taylor five for 23; and for Sumner Campbell took five for 29. Matchless 129 for four wickets (Ellis 55, Coxon 45 not out) beat Beckenham 59 and 69 for eight wickets by 70 runs on the first innings. For Matchless Taylor took six for 14 and three for 35. Opawa 133 for eight wickets declared (Buck 32) beat Cambridge Terrace 74 and 65 for two wickets by 59 runs on the first innings.
