SOUTHLAND CLUB

NAVAL TREATY WINS GUINEAS

(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, November 22. Favourites were routed at the Southland Racing Club’s spring meeting on Saturday, not one being successful.

After boisterous weather during the week the track was dead early, but bright sunshine prevailed and the track unproved with every race. There was a good attendance, and the totalisator turnover was £29,483 10s, compared with £30,977 10s last year—a decrease of £1494.

The successful double combination. Return Filght-Naval Treaty, returned £76 4s for £l.

L. J. Clutterbuck, the rider of Damper in the Takitimu Handicap, when questioned in regard to his horse's showing, stated that his horse stepped back at the start, and when the horse got going other horses on the outside of him pushed him, and he rolled for a considerable time. At the half-mile Damper was interfered with again, and from theft on was put off balance.

W. D. Skelton, the rider, of Dutch Flag in the Takitimu Handicap, stated that when the starter said "go” the assistant was standing in the same stall as the horse and the horse failed to leave on this account.
