PLUNKET SOCIETY

CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society was held this week when Mrs Janet Williams presided. A vote of thanks was passed to the Jlunket Ball Committee under the chairmanship of Mr Maurice Simes, for the time and effort they had put into making the cabaret held in August a success, and for the cheque of £l6l, the proceeds from the cabaret. Two new members were elected to the central committee of the Christchurch branch, Mrs O. Garrett and Mrs Leslie Will. Miss J. Horner, matron of the Lady King Karitane Hospital, reported for the month as follows: —number of mothers admitted to hospital, 20, and babies 32; number of mothers discharged, 19 and babies 31; daily average in hospital 9 mothers and 32 babies; number of twins admitted, two sets; number of premature babies admitted, eight, and discharged five. A vote of thanks was passed to the Southbridge sub-branch for giving the premature baby delivery cot to the hospital, and also to the Leeston subbranch for a donation of £lO for a new cot for the mothercraft nursery. The charge sister (Miss J. Mackay) reported for the month: —number of new baby cases 280, number of visits of babies to the rooms 3102. number of visits to babies in homes 1968.
