Ashley.—Mrs Sweeney presided at the September meeting of the Ashley Country Women’s Institute. Mrs McKenzie, of Christchurch, gave a demonstration on the renovating of hats. The hostesses were Mesdames Banks and Service.. Competition results were:—best bloom cup: Mrs Crowe 1, Mrs Cook 2, Mrs Cossar 3. Vase mixed flowers: Mrs Cossar 1, Mrs Crowe 2, Mrs Robertson 3. Three kiss cakes: Mrs Cook 1, Mrs Crowe 2. Mrs Robertson 3. Small posy: Mrs Robertson 1, Mrs Cossar 2, Mrs Hill 3. . Waikari.—Mrs C. H. Bethell presided at the monthly meeting of the Waikari Country Women’-s Institute. Birthday sprays were presented to seven members. Donations were received from members for the Westminster Abbey Restoration Fund, to be presented to Her Majesty the Queen. Competitions resulted as follows: novelty container of flowers: Mrs Woods

Canterbury Centre.—There was a good attendance at the monthly*meeting of the Canterbury «centre op the Country Women’s Institute. Mrs Champion presided. The vice-president of the Timaru Country Women’s Division Centre was
welcomed, also three new members, and Mrs Harvey, who has returned to Christchurch. A sick visitor’s" report was given by Mrs Anderson. It was agreed to support the proposal by headquarters to purchase an adjoining property in Wellington. A demonstratiftn of cake icing and decorating was given by Mrs Pashby. Springston.—Mrs J. R. Tyson presided
over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Springstori Country Women’s Institute. An invitation to the birthday party of the Broadfield laranch of the Women’s Division of Fed-
erated Farmers was received. Gifts for the leper appeal were brought by members. A demonstration on the Holger Neilson method of life-saving was given by . Lakeside.—Mrs L. Cooper presided at the monthly meeting of the Lakeside Country Women’s Institute. Sympathy
was expressed with Mesdames A. Bayliss, Whisker. Quigley, and the McLachlan family in their bereavements. Mrs Cooper wps appointed delegate to the half-yearly meeting at Sheffield. Plans were made for the institute’s birthday party. Birthday sprays were # presented to Mesd.ames Alexander, Croft,'Husband, W. J. Lairibie and R. Lambie. Competition results

Walkuku Beach.—The" October meeting of the Waikuku Beach Wumen’s Institute was well attended and presided over by Mrs- A. Richards. A talk was given by Mrs Eames on the care of the hair.
