LABOUR PARTY’S FRONT BENCH

MR BEVAN IMPROVES POSITION (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 6. Mr Aneurin Bevan, the Left-wing leader, improved his position in the Labour Party last night when he was elected ninth in the ballot for 12 seats of the Opposition front bench.. z Mr Bevan last year only squeezed into the front bench as the twelfth and last man in the ballot.

None of Mr Bevan’s supporters was successful.

Other members elected today were: Messrs James Griffiths and Hugh Gaitskell, Sir Frank Soskice, Mr James Callaghan, Dr. Hugh Dalton, Messrs J. Chuter Ede, and Alfred Robens, Dr. Edith Summerskill, and Messrs Philip Noel-Baker, E. Shinwell, and Glenvil Hall.

Mr Griffiths, the party chairman, again secured the highest vote.
