CANADIAN-U.S. POWER PLAN

AUTHORITY FOR NEW YORK STATE

(Rec. 10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 5. President Eisenhower today gave the New York State final authority to join with Canada in constructing a 600,000,000-dollar St. Lawrence river power project that will produce more than 12,000,000,000 kilowatt .hours of electricity a year. Mr Eisenhower designated the New York State Power Authority as the United States , partner with the Canadian province of Ontario in power development. Assuming that pending court actions to halve New York’s participation in the joint venture are unsuccessful, construction may begin next spring. Objections to New York’s participation have been filed -in petitions to the United States Court of Appeals by .a number of private companies. The power project, a necessary preliminary for the possible construction of the long-debated St. Lawrence seaway, will be built between Massena, in New York, and Cornwall, in Ontario.
