AT WELLINGTON TOMORROW

CHANDELIER LIKELY TO WIN

Chandelier is selected to make amends for his defeats at Oamaru last month when he parades in the John Sharpe Memorial Handicap at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting tomorrow. The Springfield Globe stallion was most unlucky not to win a race at Oamaru, but he showed that he had taken no harm from his races there when he won at the New Brighton trials on Tuesday. He is very fit and will need only a favourable run tomorrow to win.

Golden Nib is a much improved horse, and as a result of his consistent efforts he will be in demand here. The Gold Paper pacer is particularly smart on fast or slow tracks, and it will be surprising , if he is not placed tomorrow. D’Artagnan, a member of C. R. Berkett’s team, has had a chance to freshen up since he raced last. On his day, he is more than useful, and he should make

a bold showing here. He is not a good beginner, and unfortunately he has drawn No. 1 on the front mark. This may prevent him from receiving a good run over the first few furlongs. Direct Issue is a smart pacer, but he has not raced for some time. If he is at his best, he will be hard to beat here. The chancqs of Loraine, Lady French, and Macall are also highly regarded. Air Command, a brother to Flight Commander and Red Emperor, will have bright prospects of winning his second race of the season in the Marlborough Handicap, which has drawn a useful field of improvers. Most opposition to him may come from King’s Blue, Little Toff, Andy Peterson, Sue Scott, and Sure Terra. The following horses will be bracketed on the totalisator:—Maiden Handicap: Bobbin and San Juan. Marlborough Handicap: Bill’s Advice and Port Logan: Trial Handicap: Coincident and Notary. The double will be run on the John Sharpe Memorial Handicap and the Marlborough Handicap. Selections are:— 11 a.m.—Suburban Handicap: Chief Eagle, Executive, Fairy Dell. 1 11.45 a.m.—Miramar Handicap: King's Blue, Sure Terra, Andy Peterson. 12.30 p.m.—Maiden Handicap: Reality, Fervent Scott, Florican.
