KIDNAPPING IN CALCUTTA

RANSOM OF £25,000 PAID

Kidnappers‘who abducted the three-year-old son of a wealthy Calcutta businessman, Mr Satyanarain Beriwalla, in September, were paid nearly £25,000 ransom money, the police disclosed today. The kidnappers originally demanded £50,000 from Mr Beriwalla. He agreed to pay and handed over half the amount through an intermediary, the rest to be paid when the child was safely returned. The kidnappers, fearing a trap, fled with the child to Brinaban. in Uttar Pradesh State, where he was drugged and handed to confederates, who returned him to Calcutta, the police alleged. Detectives arrested three suspects in Calcutta today.
