RUGBY PARK MEETING Good early season form was shown by several, competitors when inter-cuub athletics were continued at Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon. The programme would have benefited by combining some of the junior handicap events to give better fields and dispense with a succession of distance races.

P. Wells (Canterbury Club) gave a polished exhibition of high jumping, clearing 6ft 2in and he narrowly missed in an attempt on the provincial record. At each of the three meetings this season. Wells has exceeded six feet.

Making the pace throughout the senior three miles. J. K. Macdonald (Crichton Cobbers) had a comfortable win from B. Dingwall (Olympic) with J. C. Daly (Marist) about 30 yards back, third. In his first season of senior racing, Macdonald is possibly already near his top form, for last week he won the secondary schools mile in 4min 34 l-ssec, the best since Cecil Matthews recorded his 4min 29 2-ssec. The women’s relay, run m four stages of 110, yards, was very closely contested-. with little more than a yard separating the first three teams, Crichton Cobbers, Westonian and Technical. J. Davies gained victory for Crichton Cobbers by inches from P. Bendy (Westonian). Westonian was disqualified, giving Technical second place.
