FUTURE OF MILK BOARDS
PLANS TO SIMPLIFY ADMINISTRATION
The Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board received formal confirmation yesterday that the Central Milk Council will defer for six to 12 months consideration of suggested changes in local administration. “This period should enable the New Zealand Milk Board to set up its own organisation, and also enable it to have a look at the possibilities of effecting the simplification and the economies desired without loss of status to the milk boards,” the letter said. “Your board is requested, over the same period, to examine the position to see whether simplification is possible and economy can be achieved by cooperation between the two organisations. Over this intervening period I would request that your board agree to the regional officer for the New Zealand Board being present at all meetings of the board so that effective liaison and co-operation can be achieved, and also that you consult with the national authority on any major staff changes or other alterations within your organisation. “In the meantime, no material change in the functions and duties of your board can take place. However, even during this period any individual approaches from milk boards with suggestions fer co-operation and simplification will be welcome. “I can assure your board that the Central Milk Council will not be making any recommendations to the Government for legislation affecting the status of your board without prior consultation with representatives from your board. This is. of course, apart from the legislation which the Government is bringing down to transfer administration from the Marketing Division to the Central Milk Council.”
