The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours following the time of issue. Situation: a deepening depression over the Tasman Sea is moving towards the North Island. Forecast: moderate north-east winds near the coast, light variable winds elsewhere; mainly cloudy, with scattered drizzle, confined mainly to the coast; cool temperatures. Outlook: showery.' WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Light variable winds; cloudy, with some scattered rain in Buller later; moderate temperatures. Outlook: fair. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch yesterday was overcast, with occasional showers. The wind was from the north-east, and the maximum temperature was 52.2 degrees. Light rain was falling at midnight, and a strong east-north-east wind was blowing. The temperature was 47 . degrees, and the barometer, at 29.803 Inches (101 U millibars), was falling.
