Sir,—The letter signed "I Know Them” leaves no doubt about the sex of the writer. Only a female could advance the cock-eyed theory that men should be retained in a job if married and stood off if single, irrespective of merit or ability to work. Rubbish! The rest of the letter oozed feminine reasoning, too. All men are bachelors until they marry; so, according to “I Know Them” we are all ‘ ‘the very essence of weak character and selfishness.” When we marry, I presume, under the devoted and inspiring influence jot the dear little better half, we are transformed into paragons of unselfishness, outstanding for our strength of character. Well, look what I have been missing. At least, “I Know Them,” whether male or female, has shown me why I am still a bachelor at 33. I have obviously given the opposite sex too long to “study my true character.”—Yours, etc., x HOORAY. October 7, 1953.
Sir, —The letter from “I Know Them” truly indicates the rambling character of your correspondent. 11 also indicates complete ignorance narrow-mindedness and envy; and except for commenting on the fact that this person has advertised these traits —a truly remarkable piece of egotism —the opinions expressed therein are completely unworthy of discussion. My only suggestion is that your correspondent set up a marriage bureau and dispose of these apparently odious creatures. —Yours, etc., BACHELOR—AND NOT A CONFIRMED ONE. October 7, 1953.
