JEWS IN EAST GERMANY

New Purge Reported

(Rec. 8 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 20. The American Jewish Committee reported today that the East German Communists had renewed their antiSemitic campaign secretly and gaoled hundreds of Jews behind the Iron Curtain.

A report from observers inside East Germany said that the last handful of Jews in Government jobs had been purged and Jewish community organisations were being forced to dissolve.

Jewish leaders had been purged and sent to Soviet labour camps, or had fled to the West.
