MOTOR-VEHICLE LICENSING

MINISTER ANNOUNCES EXEMPTIONS (New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, September 21. Certain types of specially-construc-ted vehicles were to be exempt from licensing fees, said the Minister of Transport (Mr W. S. Goosman) today. Road graders and front-end loaders are among the vehicles affected.

In practice both these types had been exempt from licence fees, but the exemption of graders had had to be approved individually by the Minister of Transport, he said. Front-end loaders qualified for exemption as they were classed as a type of scoop. Fully-tracked tractors would also be exempt. These were not used on the road for long distances, and were almost entirely engaged on road works and other engineering projects. Generally, they were diesel-driven, and therefore the refund of motor spirit tax did not apply.
