Survey Trip To Rio De Janeiro

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 19. Britain’s new comet jet air liner touched down at London airport this afternoon, only 13| hours’ .flying time from Rio de Janeiro.

In spite of an official statement before the plane started, that it was not attempting to break any records, it added yet another to the long list of speed records it scattered behind it on every leg of the 12.000-mile trail-blaz-ing flight from London to Rio and back.

Today it established a new civil transport record, by covering the 814 miles from Madrid to London in Ihr 55min. Yesterday it covered the Rio de Janeiro-Madrid leg in the flying time of llhr 35min—another record.

On the outward journey it set records on each leg, and completed the entire journey in 12J hours’ flying time. The outward journey took 20hr 46min altogether, compared with about 29 hours for conventional pistonengined aircraft
