100-MILE ROUND-THE-GORGES RACE Moving to first place before Rolleston. the Timaru junior rider, A. Cornelius, held his lead to the finish in the 100-mile Round-the-Gorges amateur road race, held on Saturday. , , x Roads and weather combined to give the 65 starters the best conditions for the race for some years, but they had to ride into a sharp head wind to the finish. Only about 30 riders finished the course. Results were:—A. Cornelius (Timaru), 39min? 1; B. Dawe (Christchurch), 60min, 2; A. J. Paviell (Avon), 44min, 3; A. J. Hall (Avon), 44min, 4; L. J. Sid Patterson (Australia), the world’s [pursuit cycling champion, has agreed to ride in a six-day race in West Berlin, starting on October 30, sports officials in Berlin said today. Patterson, four times world champion, will be partnered by a French rider.j
