BOWDEN CUP MATCH TRINITY BEATS KARORI The annual match for the Bowden Cup, which is competed for by the premier teams of Canterbury and Wellington, was played at Burwood Park on Saturday when Trinity (Canterbury) defeated Karori (Wellington) by 2 goals to 1 after a hard and fast game. Karori held the advantage early in the game and Ormsby turned a shot from Fuller outside the post. Trinity gained the upper hand and Thomas started a clever move at Karori’s twenty-five which was finished off by Dickie netting with a clever back hander. The game became fast and even with only brief glimpses of first-class hockey. Trinity’s backs, R. Parrott and A. Mitchel. defended steadily and M. Hayward was prominent for clever intercepting. Half-time came with the score 1-0 in favour of Trinity. On resuming Trinity bore down on Karori’s goal for Robinson to find the net. Karori took charge and Tynan led
raid after raid, but a series of fruitless penalty covers was the only result until a penalty bully against Allen was won by Tynan, who goaled. Karori had much the better of the second half and came near to scoring several times. I. Smith, at centre half, played a brilliant game and he and Tynan led the team in many raids, but stout defence prevented a further score and the game ended with the score: Trinity 2. Karori 1. Umpires, Messrs A. Ostler and W. D. Sloane. OLD BOYS MATCHES High School Old Boys beat Wellington College Old Boys by 2 goals tq 0, in a fast, even game. D. Reid and I. Armstrong scored for Old Boys.
