THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN

COMMEMORATION IN CHRISTCHURCH

Battle of Britain Day will be commemorated in Christchurch tomorrow morning by a parade, laying of wreaths at the war memorial in Cathedral square, and church services. The wreath from the Brevet Club will be laid by two men who were pilots in the Battle of Britain, Messrs R. Hyde and T. Caldwell.

Members of the Royal New Zealand ■ Air Force stationed at Wigram and ■ Weedons, of the Air Training Corps, L the Brevet Club, and the Air Force . Association will take part in the ' parade. They will form up in Victoria square at 10.35 a.m. and march to the Christchurch Cathedral, where the wreaths will be laid at the war ; memorial. After this ceremony a memorial service will be held in the Cathedral. Transport will take Roman Catholic members to a service at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. After the service, the parade will reform in Worcester street and march past the war memorial back to the dispersal point in Victoria square. The parade will be attended by the band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force (Wigram) and it is expected that about 300 will take part in the parade. Wreaths will be laid by the following: the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.), the member of Parliament for Lyttelton (Mr H. R. Lake), the Army (Lieutenant-Colonel J. A. Worsnop), the president of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association (Mr G’. D. Hattaway), the president of the Homeservicemen’s Association (Mr H. Whittaker), the president of the Air Force Association (Mr F. B. Cairns), a representative of the women’s section of the Air Force Association (Miss M. Aston), the president of the Ex-Navalmen’s Association (Mr H. Herndell), the officer commanding Wigram (Group Captain B. S. Nicholl) and the Brevet Club (Messrs Hyde and Caldwell).
