CRASH OF U.S. AIRLINER
28 Dead In New York Tragedy NEW YORK, September 16. An American Airlines Convair today crashed in flames over the Albany Airport, New York, when it struck two high radio towers. All 25 passengeis and the crew of three were killed. Some bodies were thrown clear, and others were burned in the wreckage. The airliner was circling the Albany Airport waiting for the ground fog to clear. It was about three: miles from the airport when it struck the towers, one of which is 365 ft high. Some witnesses said the plane seemed to be having engine trouble before it struck the towers. The crash was the first fatal accident involving a commercial airliner in the 25-year history of the Albany airport.
Woman to be Hanged.-—Mrs Louisa Merrifield, aged 46, convicted of murdering a 79-year-old widow with rat poison, will not be reprieved, and will be executed at Strangeways Prison, Manchester, on September 18.—London, September 16.
